Jamboree Leaders Meet and Greet

Last night the Scoutmasters and 1st/2nd Assistants for the Council Contingent met for introductions and kick off meeting. Starting in September we will meet each month through the Jamboree Shakedown campout the last weekend in April.

From our two troops present were Harry Bubeck and David Davidson from Troop 1
Brian Bennett, Joey Castleberry, John Fox Holt from Troop 2

Charlie Holmes and Scott Ferguson did a high level review of the trip itenerary and Jamboree itself. We talked about the tour company, talked payments and talked open spots in each troop. Right now between the two troops we have 12 open spots. Three of those 12 have names but no money down. If you want to go with us let Brian Bennett know briantbennett@hotmail.com

The troop leaders for our two troops plan to meet later this month over dinner to start planning our trip.

Scout Show Tickets Help Pay For Jamboree

Don't forget Scout Show tickets as a great way to pay for Jamboree.

Sell 480 tickets and the trip is yours!

The tickets are $10 each. They offer discounts to restaurants, services and the Texas Rangers games for a year! The Scouts get the tickets in-hand so people pay the Scout and they automatically get a ticket. Sell one ticket for $10 and the troop gets $5.

There are two qualifiers!

1. Turn in Money to Council on time.
2. The unit must have a booth at Scout Show

If a troop does not turn in Money on time, the commissions to the troop go down. If the troop does not have a booth at Scout Show the commissions go down. If the money and/or remaining tickets are not turned in by May 31st there are no commissions.

I know Troop 42 takes a percentage from every fundraiser to pay for regular expenses that would otherwise be seen in increased dues or out-of-pocket. Check with your troop on how they handle fundraisers.

Jamboree Committee Meeting

Last Wednesday Harry went to the Council Jamboree Committee meeting at the Council Office and I went as a guest. We reviewed recruitment numbers and set dates for Adult Leader interviews. The National Jamboree Committee had met earlier that week and some decisions were made. Troop gateways are restricted by height to 10 feet. Subcamp gateways are restricted to 16 feet. As you can see from our picture at the top of the blog our gateway in 2005 was larger than 10 feet. I suggested we make every troop gateway a subcamp gateway and our theme is "Gateway's to the South". No one seriously considered it. Our medical facilities will combine between subcamps. Instead of one per subcamp there will be a larger facility for two or three subcamps each. If the President speaks at the Jamboree it will be in the morning. There will be more Kiosks for lunches. AT&T is the official cellular carrier and will have more power. There will not be pay phones. They are considering having cell phone power stations for a fee. The subcamp commissary will distribute food by troop, not by patrol. The deign of our patches was discussed.

Jamboree Adult Leaders Selected

Harry and Brian met with the T-175 Jamboree committee last night and went through many topics. The meeting went very well and all left excited about the adventures for our Scouts. The adult leaders for both troops were selected. We have not determined the Assistant Scoutmaster positions just yet

Harry David Mark Josh

Brian John Joey Bobby

Each of the assistant scoutmaster positions has a specific list of responsibilities. David, Mark, John and Joey will fill one of the two 1st and 2nd positions and Josh and Bobby will fill the 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster positions.

In the Spring of 2010 we will have our own troop shakedown (both troops together) at the Houlb Farm. We will select the youth leaders at that time.

Jamboree Recruitment Update

Two of the Scouts under "interested" status just jumped up to registered status.
We now have 57 spots reserved. We are at a point now where every time a Scout registers that means another Scout on our total list will go with another troop.

Harry and Brian have a meeting with our friends in T-175 this week. We plan to settle our adult leadership this week.
